According to CNBC, Amazon is requiring third-party sellers to tag product images and videos that contain AI-generated people after New York passed a law mandating greater transparency around synthetic performers in ads. The company told sellers on Wednesday to add specific metadata keywords to images and A+ content before upload, and said it will add an indicator to listings where applicable. Amazon said the rule does not apply to TV, video game or movie characters, or to content featuring real people that has been altered using AI. The New York law took effect last month and requires companies to disclose when synthetic performers are used in place of human actors in advertising. Amazon also has been expanding its use of AI across its business, while third-party sellers increasingly use the technology to create text, images and other listing content.
