According to Yonhap, South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) said investors' minimum deposit requirement for a single-stock leveraged exchange traded fund will be raised later this month as part of measures announced earlier to stabilize the market and protect investors amid extreme volatility. The requirement will increase to 30 million won ($20,000) in cash from 10 million won in mixed stocks and cash, while new ETFs tracking Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will be temporarily suspended from listing. Investors will also be allowed to trade leveraged ETFs in batches of 20 shares, a move the regulator said should reduce turnover. The leveraged ETFs, launched in May this year, are designed to double the daily moves of the underlying stocks and have fueled sharp swings as retail investors rushed to trade products tied to the two chipmakers, which have rallied on the global artificial intelligence boom.
