According to Axios, President Donald Trump said the United States would bomb and destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant, including sites near Tehran, each time Iran attacks a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said the threat comes as he considers both a ceasefire and a larger military escalation, and he said a ceasefire would require Iran to stop attacking ships and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels over the past three months, including several attacks after the U.S. and Iran signed a June memorandum of understanding calling for a ceasefire. Regional sources said Qatari mediators are still trying to reach a deal to stop the fighting and reopen the strait. Iran’s Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war status, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of a powerful and decisive response, and Brig. Gen.
