Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) said in a post on X that it is sad to see BitMEX go, noting that the exchange pioneered 100x perpetuals in crypto back in 2014 when delivery futures existed before then, making Fridays hectic.

CZ said BitMEX's BTC-only deposits, single-chain operations, and once-daily withdrawals through a multi-sig wallet were constraints that seemed inconvenient but kept the exchange unhacked throughout its history.

CZ noted that all four founders pled guilty to BSA violations a month before trial after 18 months of fighting, receiving $10 million fines each and home confinement, with no one going to prison.

However, CZ said their business did not survive the war on crypto from the Biden administration. CZ added that the wind-down appears orderly and users can withdraw their assets, expressing respect to Arthur Hayes.
