According to Axios, Digital Realty said its Digital Dulles campus could eventually include 13 data centers and require more than $10 billion of investment over the next decade. The company also said it is considering at least three additional innovation lab locations in Singapore, São Paulo and Johannesburg, while a similar lab opened in London in June. The lab in Northern Virginia opened in September and is designed to let customers, lawmakers and journalists see how data centers operate without exposing proprietary information. Axios also reported that one data center building near Dulles Airport has nearly 40 diesel generators attached for backup power and testing, and Digital Realty expects the planned Virginia facilities to rely more on energy than water for cooling.
