BitMEX's official announcement stated that the exchange will close on September 23, 2026 at 04:00 UTC, with new account registrations halted immediately. The board of HDR Global Trading Limited decided to close the exchange following a strategic review of the business and the broader crypto industry.
From August 26, risk limits will stop users from placing new positions, allowing only position reduction. BitMEX will force close remaining open positions at the Closure Time. All staked BMEX tokens have been unstaked and are available in holder accounts.
KYC'd users who fail to withdraw by the Closure Time will be charged a monthly fee of $50 equivalent or 1% per annum, whichever is greater. The exchange warned users to be vigilant against phishing attempts and confirmed all assets exceed liabilities per its Proof of Reserves and Liabilities page.
