Hu Han, head of multimodal understanding at Tencent Hunyuan, has resigned, according to 36Kr. He joined Tencent in early 2025 after serving as chief researcher in the Vision Computing Group at Microsoft Research Asia, and later moved to the Frontier research team under Tencent's large language model division, where he reported to Yao Shunyu.
The report says Yao has been reorganizing teams under the division, while Hu's former group may shift its focus to frontier world model research. It also says Tencent is reassessing the value of multimodal understanding work, noting that vision-language recognition accuracy has already reached about 85% and that the business upside from further investment looks limited. 36Kr also reported that Tencent Hunyuan's Hy3 model was released on July 6 and has been positioned against GLM-5.2 and DeepSeek V4 Pro at a similar parameter scale.
