Mainland and Hong Kong stocks recovered on Thursday after a recent AI-led correction, with investors continuing to rotate into defensive plays, according to RTHK.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index closed 318 points, or 1.3 percent, higher at 25,210 on turnover of HK$233.48 billion. The tech index rose 0.6 percent to 4,698 and the China enterprises index gained 1.2 percent to 8,352. Tencent climbed 1 percent after falling more than 7 percent in the previous session.
On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index ended up nearly 10 points, or 0.25 percent, at 3,876. The Shenzhen Component Index added 0.44 percent to 14,123 and the ChiNext edged up 0.25 percent to 3,575. The banking sector led gains with a 0.6 percent rise, while defence stocks added 2 percent and rare earth shares nearly 3 percent. The CSI Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Gold Industry Equity Index jumped 1.6 percent as precious metals rallied. New energy vehicle stocks gained 3.6 percent despite new US restrictions, and new energy stocks rose 3.7 percent.
