According to Axios, House Democrats are demanding a reckoning after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent more than $500,000 backing a candidate in Arizona who is on track to lose her primary. Former Arizona state Rep. Amish Shah led former TV journalist Marlene Galán-Woods by roughly seven percentage points in Arizona's 1st district as of Wednesday evening, with 87% of votes counted.
The DCCC ran a $514,000 joint ad buy with Galán-Woods after endorsing her in June through its Red to Blue program, according to AdImpact. The spending fight comes after the party's campaign arm also backed losing primary candidates in California's 22nd district and Maine's 2nd district, adding to criticism from House Democrats who want the money shifted to general elections.
