Wyden introduces bill to curb Trump's tariff powers

According to CNBC, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., introduced legislation on Wednesday that would rein in President Donald Trump's tariff authority by eliminating some statutory tools for setting import duties and giving Congress more say over the powers that remain. The bill, called the Congressional Trade Powers Reform Act of 2026, would require congressional approval for tariffs imposed under Sections 301, 201 and 232, eliminate Sections 122 and 338 as tariff authorities, and create a Joint Committee on Tariffs and Trade to review proposals. It would also make the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative a separate agency outside the Executive Office of the President and establish an inspector general within it.
