FAW Toyota’s China vehicle sales fell 27% year on year to 273,700 units in the first half of 2026, dropping it out of the top three among joint-venture brands, according to Jiemian News. GAC Toyota sold about 341,100 units in the same period, almost 70,000 more than FAW Toyota, after FAW Toyota had led GAC Toyota by about 50,000 units in full-year 2025.

FAW Toyota sold 262,300 gasoline vehicles in the first half, down from 362,800 a year earlier, and its bZ EV lineup delivered about 11,500 units, while GAC Toyota’s two bZ-branded EVs sold about 51,900 units. Jiemian News reported that the gap in EV sales, near 40,000 units, was a major reason GAC Toyota overtook FAW Toyota.

The report said FAW Toyota’s lineup remains heavily reliant on mature gasoline and hybrid models, while GAC Toyota has benefited from stable models such as Camry and Sienna plus locally developed EVs including the bZ3X and bZ7. FAW Toyota has also introduced local partners including BYD and Momenta, and Toyota launched its China chief engineer system, RCE, in 2025, but the report said the two joint ventures continue to show different product and market outcomes.
