Meta's internal lab AAI Labs, part of its Applied AI Engineering team, is developing a routing service modeled on OpenRouter that would send different AI tasks to more cost-effective large models to reduce overall compute spending, according to 36Kr. Meta formally set up the unit in March, allowing employees to propose internal AI products and services; approved ideas are then assigned a small dedicated team, and mature projects may later be launched externally. Internal documents reviewed by media show that product proposals, once approved, move into development and are evaluated for potential public release.
