South Korea Launches 9.6 Billion KRW Deposit Token Payment Project

South Korea has launched a deposit token payment infrastructure project with a budget of 9.6 billion KRW. According to NS3.AI, KISA and the Ministry of Science and ICT are extending Project Hangang into the civilian payment sector.

The project involves 9 banks, 8 payment gateways, and 2 large-scale demand-side entities. The government plans to test deposit tokens for official business travel expenses and a treasury fund management model linked to dBrain.
