The Kobeissi Letter said on X that data show short positions in U.S. stocks continue to rise. According to Odaily, the short interest ratio for S&P 500 constituents has climbed to about 3.7% of free float, near its highest level since 2010, while the ratio for Russell 3000 constituents has risen to about 6.1%, also near a record high.

The post said both measures have increased since the start of 2025. It also said the short interest ratio for all New York Stock Exchange-listed stocks reached 9.0% in late June, a record high. The post compared that figure with peaks of about 5.0% during the 2008 financial crisis and about 6.0% during the 2020 pandemic.
