According to Axios, progressive groups Indivisible, Demand Progress and the Revolving Door Project are pressing Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand as she works to broker a compromise on the CLARITY Act, with the bill's ethics provisions still unresolved. The groups said in a letter sent Tuesday night to every Democratic Senate office that Gillibrand, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is an example of a Democratic leader whose conduct undercuts efforts to hold the Trump administration accountable for corruption. Axios said the groups argue that her son's ties to the crypto industry make Democrats vulnerable to the same criticism they are aiming at President Trump, whose crypto ventures have generated an estimated $600 million windfall. Gillibrand has called for Congress to bar elected officials and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring their own digital assets, while Senate Republicans, the White House and the crypto industry continue to push for passage of the bill. Sens. Bernie Moreno and Cynthia Lummis are working with the White House on compromise language, Sen. Thom Tillis is leading Republican negotiations, and the industry's flagship super PAC, Fairshake, has about $125 million on hand.
