Ethereum improvement proposal EIP-8222 plans to separate staking deposits from withdrawals using a STARK-based cryptographic mechanism and to re-anonymize validators to reduce the traceability of validator activity. According to Odaily, about one-third of ETH is currently staked.
Sygnum Bank staking and decentralized finance products head Thibault Dubuis said deposit addresses, validators, and withdrawal credentials now create a visible link that makes institutional position sizes, entry times, and staking strategies nearly public. The proposal remains under discussion and has no deployment timetable. Its design may include fixed deposit denominations and asset claim waiting periods, and institutional users may face higher execution costs, process delays, and compliance work.
