Fortinet to use Intel foundry for next-generation security chip

According to CNBC, Fortinet will use Intel's foundry to produce its next-generation security chip, SP6, on the Intel 4 process. The companies announced the deal Tuesday, giving Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan a notable customer win as the chipmaker continues seeking a larger marquee foundry client. Intel has said it is still trying to secure a "significant" customer for its most advanced manufacturing technology, while its leading processes are 14A and 18A. Tan told CNBC in May that multiple customers were working with Intel's foundry, but he would not identify them. Fortinet's stock has more than doubled this year, and the company said in May that it would keep investing in its ASIC technology.
