According to Axios, President Trump is nearing a decision on either a new 10-day ceasefire aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz or a major joint military campaign with Israel against Iran. Regional mediators including Qatar, Egypt and Pakistan have presented the ceasefire proposal to the U.S. and Iran, while the Trump administration is also preparing for talks to fail and has deployed dozens of fighter jets and refueling aircraft to the region. Israeli forces are on high alert, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel will respond to any Iranian attack with massive strikes. The proposal would halt fighting, reopen both shipping lanes through the strait, and give Washington and Tehran room to negotiate a longer-term arrangement governing passage. A senior U.S. official said talks are continuing, but Trump has not finished retaliating after at least three U.S. service members were killed in renewed fighting. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said mediators had conveyed proposals to Tehran, while adding that Iran's armed forces would continue to respond with strength.
