Kakao Union Plans Lunch-Hour Rally Amid Stalled Wage Talks

According to Yonhap, unionized workers at Kakao Corp. were set to hold a lunch-hour demonstration on Tuesday as wage negotiations with management have remained deadlocked for two months. Members planned to picket outside the messenger app operator's headquarters in Pangyo, south of Seoul, for about an hour starting at noon, although the final number of participants had not been confirmed, according to the company's labor union. The action would be the union's third collective move after it failed to narrow differences with management in May over performance-based incentives. The union is reportedly seeking payments equal to about 13% to 14% of operating profit, while management has rejected the demand, saying it would place too much strain on operations. Union members staged a partial strike in early June and a full-day strike on June 29.
