ENS DAO has approved a proposal to activate a new security committee for a two-year term. According to ChainCatcher, the eight-member committee will have veto power to cancel malicious proposals during the waiting period before execution, but its authority is limited to canceling time-locked transactions and does not include spending treasury funds, submitting proposals, or rewriting approved proposals.

The committee may only exercise its powers under emergency conditions defined in its charter. ENS said governance itself can be an attack surface, citing risks such as borrowed voting power used for attacks, malicious code hidden in proposal code, and compromised credentials being used to push harmful transactions. The new committee will use a 5-of-8 multisig, meaning at least five members must agree to cancel a proposal, and its term must be extended by a DAO vote after two years.
