ENS DAO has approved a proposal to activate a new security committee for a two-year term. According to Odaily, the committee will have eight members and veto power, allowing it to cancel proposals during the waiting period after a malicious proposal passes and before execution.

The committee’s authority is limited to canceling transactions in timelock and does not extend to using treasury funds, submitting proposals, or rewriting approved proposals. It may exercise its powers only under emergency conditions defined in its charter.

ENS said governance itself may become an attack surface. The project cited borrowed voting power used to launch attacks, proposal code that can conceal malicious behavior, and compromised credentials that could be used to push harmful transactions.

The new committee will use a 5-of-8 multisig, meaning at least five members must agree to cancel a proposal. After two years, the term will require a DAO vote to be extended.
