According to Axios, former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson (D) has all but locked up the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins after Graham Platner’s campaign collapsed. Jackson’s preferred delegate slate won overwhelming support last weekend, and other prominent Democrats in the crowded race — including Nirav Shah, Dan Kleban and Jordan Wood — have since ended their campaigns and backed Jackson.

The Maine Democratic Party is set to make the nomination official at Saturday’s convention of 601 delegates from the state’s 16 counties, with votes to be cast in rounds until a candidate wins a majority. Party Chair Charlie Dingman said the convention will be “fair, representative, and as transparent as possible” as Democrats try to defeat Collins and win the Senate seat. Jackson’s campaign says he supports Medicare for all, ending federal funding for Israel’s military, abolishing ICE and creating a federal right to abortion.
