AMD to ship first Helios AI rack system with Microsoft as customer

According to CNBC, Advanced Micro Devices is preparing to ship its first rack-scale artificial intelligence system, Helios, later this year, with Microsoft among the customers. Microsoft said it will use Helios in its data centers, while AMD said the system is also being adopted by Meta, OpenAI, Oracle and others. The article said AMD would begin shipments later this year, though financial terms and compute capacity were not disclosed. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the company is expanding its Azure infrastructure portfolio with AMD Helios to give customers the performance, scale and choice needed to build and run next-generation AI applications. AMD said Helios is its first rival to Nvidia's Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, and that it expects to book tens of billions of dollars in data center AI revenue starting in 2027, with the majority coming from Helios.
