Morning Squawk: Iran Strikes Lift Brent Above $90, American Airlines Targets Margin Gap

According to CNBC, U.S. airstrikes on Iran continued for a ninth straight night, the U.S. death toll from the conflict rose to 17 over the weekend, Brent crude moved above $90 a barrel, and the national average price for regular gasoline climbed back above $4 a gallon, according to AAA. The newsletter also said nearly half of U.S. voters think the federal government should not take ownership stakes in U.S.-based companies, while 19% approved of such stakes and 32% were undecided.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom told CNBC the carrier’s long-range plan is to close its margin gap with rivals United and Delta and that it wants to be best at everything it does. He said American should be viewed as a premium global airline with the largest footprint in North America, but did not give a timeline.

The newsletter also said F/m Investments recently released WarshGPT, an AI tool that scans nearly 1,800 documents to gauge how Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is thinking about the economy and monetary policy. UBS last month told clients that Warsh’s policy-related comments were overwhelmingly hawkish after his first policy meeting as chairman.
