Bank of Korea Prepares Live CBDC Transactions With 9 Banks In September

The Bank of Korea will move its CBDC program into live transactions in September with nine participating banks, including Gyeongnam Bank, iM Bank, KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana and Woori Financial Group. According to CoinDesk, the second phase will test real transactions and aims to create an environment where the won can be traded freely regardless of time or place. The central bank said it will provide the infrastructure for institutional CBDC use, while each bank will conduct its own business using deposit tokens.
