FDA says Taylor Farms lettuce cyclospora test was a false positive

According to CNBC, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said laboratory experts rechecked lettuce sample results from Taylor Farms in an investigation into a cyclospora outbreak and determined the finding should be treated as a false positive. The agency said there were no confirmed positive cyclospora sample results as of Sunday, after saying on Saturday that shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms tested positive for the parasite. Taylor Fresh Foods said it was informed the FDA made a mistake, added that the agency had not identified a single positive product test result for cyclospora, and said it had completed a voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico out of caution based on the initial information. The FDA said it has notified Taylor Farms and is working with the company to remove the product implicated in the outbreak from the market. The outbreak has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Yum Brands' Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia and has led to around 100 hospitalizations and no deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
