Copenhagen Tops Economist Intelligence Unit's 2026 Global Liveability Index Again

According to Lianhe Zaobao citing BBC and Reuters, Denmark's capital Copenhagen ranked first for the second straight year in the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2026 Global Liveability Index. Vienna, Melbourne, and Sydney followed in second through fourth place, while Zurich came fifth. The rest of the top 10 were Geneva, Osaka, Adelaide, Vancouver and Tokyo. Australia had three cities in the top 10, the most of any country, while Switzerland and Japan each had two. The index assessed living conditions in 173 cities across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. BBC reported that Copenhagen scored full marks for stability, education and infrastructure. Vienna retained second place after losing the top spot to Copenhagen last year, also scoring full marks in healthcare and education. Melbourne ranked third with a culture and environment score of 96, while Sydney was fourth with a total score of 97 and full marks in healthcare and education. Zurich was fifth, with the city noted for its efficiency and proximity to nature.
