According to Jin10, Goldman Sachs analysts said gains that South Korean residents have made from the local stock market rally may provide only a limited boost to consumption. In a research report, they said this year's growth in household stock wealth could lift South Korean consumption by about 0.3% of GDP. They added that some of the modest gains may be offset by higher debt repayment costs as the Bank of Korea restarts its rate-hiking cycle, and that stock-return volatility and recent market pullbacks may lead residents to view stock-market gains as temporary, limiting the pass-through from stock wealth growth to consumption.
