Thousands of households and businesses in Kent were still facing water supply problems for a second day after South East Water said up to 7,000 properties had low pressure, no water or intermittent supply because of a temporary instrument failure at its Tunbridge Wells treatment works, BBC reported. The company said the works were now stable, but low storage levels and high demand meant it could not pump water to some higher-ground areas until tanks replenished.
South East Water apologised and said two bottled water stations were open in Tunbridge Wells, with a third later opening at the Odeon cinema car park in Knights Way. The stations were due to stay open until 20:00 BST. Earlier this week, the company was ordered to spend £30.5m on improvements after investigations by Ofwat, and it warned in its annual report that it needed fresh financing after a £55m hit from outages over the winter.
