Kenya is investigating the July 18 breach of President William Ruto's official website. According to Odaily, attackers briefly disabled president.go.ke, altered the homepage, and demanded a ransom of 5 bitcoin, saying unspecified information would be leaked before Saturday night if the payment was not made.
Information, Communications and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said the government's ICT Authority immediately activated its cybersecurity response protocol. Authorities temporarily restricted public access to the portal to contain the incident and carry out forensic checks.
The government said there is no evidence that sensitive data was accessed without authorization, leaked, or lost, and that government systems and digital services remain secure. Hong Kong technical teams are working with external technical partners to restore the page and determine how the security boundary was breached.
