On June 14, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce said that China has noticed that on June 8, Turkey announced that it would impose an additional 40% import tariff on fuel and hybrid passenger vehicles originating in China, which will be implemented 30 days after the date of issuance. Turkey has imposed an additional 40% tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles in the same way, and China has repeatedly lodged solemn representations with Turkey. Turkey only imposes additional import tariffs on passenger cars originating in China, which makes Chinese products less treated than congeneric products of other members, which constitutes discrimination against Chinese products and seriously violates the principle of most favored nations. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this. China urges Turkey to immediately lift discriminatory tariff measures and jointly promote the healthy development of China-Turkey economic and trade relations. China will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
