MetaMask experienced a security incident after a North Korean hacker identified as Tyler Knapp was found to have infiltrated the team, according to Matt Corva. According to Odaily, the hacker entered MetaMask as an outsourced worker through a long-term human resources vendor, bypassing the company’s direct-hire background checks.
The individual worked at the company for one month and participated in development of the wallet’s fiat on- and off-ramp features. He was later detected by the company’s security monitoring because of unusual IP and behavioral activity.
MetaMask then revoked all of his access and suspended all product launches he had handled. No material data or fund losses have been reported so far.
