据美国空军《空天部队》杂志网站、《华尔街日报》当地时间17日援引知情人士消息报道，随着美国与伊朗的冲突加剧，五角大楼正加紧向中东地区增派战机，包括美国空军的F-16“战隼”战机和F-35“闪电II”隐形战机。
此次被部署至中东地区的战机包括来自德国施潘达勒姆空军基地的美国空军第480战斗机中队F-16战机，以及来自英国皇家空军莱肯希思基地的美国空军第48战斗机联队F-35战机。报道称，多架空中加油机也正前往中东地区。
《空天部队》杂志网站分析称，美国此次向中东地区增派战机表明，随着特朗普政府寻求向伊朗施压以迫使其同意达成另一项协议，战争可能会扩大。
