Michael Olise broke Pelé’s World Cup assist record with his seventh assist of the 2026 tournament, while Kylian Mbappé scored his 22nd World Cup goal to move past Lionel Messi’s previous mark in France’s third-place game against England, according to Yahoo Sports reported. Olise assisted on both of Mbappé’s goals, including the pass that tied Pelé’s record in the 48th minute as France cut into England’s 4-0 halftime lead. Pelé had held the assist record for more than 50 years after finishing the 1970 World Cup with six assists.
