Kylian Mbappé scored his ninth goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in France’s World Cup third-place game against England on Saturday, moving ahead of Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race and tying him for the most goals in World Cup history with 21, according to Yahoo Sports. France trailed 4-0 at halftime before Mbappé finished Dayot Upamecano’s pass in the 48th minute. Mbappé has now scored in seven of France’s eight matches in the tournament and has recorded at least one goal contribution in every game.
