According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, Germany has formally raised its national security alert level from a prior "potential threat level" to the highest "high threat level" after receiving frequent recent terrorism reports and intelligence. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told Welt am Sonntag on Saturday (July 18) that worsening security conditions led the authorities to step up the alert, and warned that attack plans targeting infrastructure, individuals and institutions in Germany were now "obvious." The Interior Ministry has not yet commented on the specific intelligence or the security measures to be deployed. Germany has seen a series of deadly terror attacks and violent incidents in recent years, including a Christmas 2024 car attack in Magdeburg that killed six people and injured hundreds, and a knife attack in Solingen that killed three people and wounded 10; the perpetrator was convicted and jailed last year.
