Spain trained outside in hazardous conditions in East Hanover, New Jersey, ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina, despite calls from experts to train indoors because of wildfire smoke across parts of the US. Luis de la Fuente’s side trained as normal after beating France on Tuesday to reach the final, and Mikel Merino said he could see and smell the smoke from the fires in Canada but is trying not to focus on it, according to Yahoo Sports. The World Health Organization forecast calls for improved air quality in East Rutherford, although uncertainty remains over how much rain expected Saturday and a possible return of smoky air could affect the final.
