According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast near Mexico's southern Chiapas state on Friday, triggering a tsunami warning and shaking buildings in neighboring Guatemala and El Salvador. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter was near Puerto Madero, Mexico, and the quake had a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles). After the quake, the U.S. tsunami warning system issued a tsunami threat alert for the area. Reuters cited one witness as saying the shaking rocked buildings in Guatemala City, while another said El Salvador also felt the tremor.
