According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, parts of France’s Alpes-Maritimes region were hit by severe thunderstorms and hail after Météo-France issued a yellow weather warning, leaving 53,000 households without power. The outages mainly affected the southeastern Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region and the southwestern Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. France’s grid operator Enedis said on Friday, July 17, that Météo-France had lifted the orange thunderstorm warning previously in force across southeastern departments. Météo-France had earlier warned of large hail and strong winds from the Massif Central to the Alps. France has faced persistent heat in recent weeks, with dry conditions triggering major wildfires and subsequent heavy rain disrupting power supply and transport networks.
