According to CNBC, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China will offer developing countries 5,000 opportunities for AI training and seminar programs and expand AI cooperation with blocs including ASEAN, the League of Arab States and the African Union. Speaking at the World AI Conference in Shanghai, Xi said AI development should not be a single country’s “solo performance” and urged stronger international cooperation, greater risk awareness and safeguards to keep AI secure, controllable and under human control. Xi’s remarks came a day after 29 countries signed an agreement in Shanghai to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, or WAICO, which will be headquartered in the city, according to Chinese state media Xinhua. He also called on countries to oppose stretching the national security concept in AI or putting one country’s security ahead of another’s.
