Takehiro Tomiyasu is on the verge of joining Venezia as a free agent, with the Japanese defender set to return to Serie A, according to Yahoo Sports reported. TuttoMercatoWeb said Venezia have an agreement in place on a three-year contract worth about €1 million net per season plus appearance-based bonuses, and the move could be completed as soon as this weekend. Marin Sverko's corrective hip surgery, which could sideline him for three to four months, has increased Venezia's need for defensive cover. Tomiyasu, 27, previously played two Serie A seasons at Bologna, made 61 league appearances and later had spells at Arsenal and Ajax before making three appearances for Japan at this summer's World Cup.
