According to Axios, the Department of Homeland Security said half of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field offices now have body cameras for agents, with the rest expected to get them within 60 days. Congress added $20 million for DHS in April to provide the cameras, and DHS said the rollout has been slowed by recent federal government shutdowns. ICE first tested body cameras in 2021 and had deployed 1,600 cameras by 2024, while then-ICE Director Todd Lyons told Congress in March that about 3,000 of the agency's 13,000 agents were using body cameras and 6,000 more were on the way. DHS said each arrest team will have an individual wearing a camera, and critics including Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, said the delays are unacceptable.
