Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has invested in AI agent security startup Runta. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. According to Odaily, Runta wants to help enterprises manage and constrain AI agents in a way similar to raising children.

Runta founder Guanlan Dai previously worked on Cloudflare's technical team and was a founding engineer at API connectivity startup Kong. Dai said AI agents are similar to growing children because they can complete tasks independently but still need boundaries, supervision, and permission management.

He said companies need to limit which important files AI agents can access, what actions they are allowed to take, and how much money they can spend in a single transaction.

Runta is developing infrastructure for AI agent supervision to help companies manage permissions, security risks, and behavioral boundaries. The company says it aims to reduce the risk of data leaks, incorrect operations, and financial losses when autonomous AI systems carry out tasks.

As more companies deploy AI agents with autonomous decision-making abilities, the need for trusted and secure agent management systems is becoming a new infrastructure requirement, according to the article. Runta wants to serve as a parental-control layer for the AI agent era, offering identity management, permission controls, risk limits, and operational oversight for enterprises.
