The Competition and Markets Authority is investigating Euro Car Parks over whether drivers can be charged fairly while queuing at petrol forecourts, and is also reviewing the company’s wider appeals process, according to BBC. The watchdog said the probe will examine whether charges for drivers waiting for fuel, using petrol pumps or other forecourt services such as car washes breach consumer protection law.
The investigation is part of a broader CMA crackdown on potentially unfair practices by private parking operators. The regulator said it has concerns about appeals processes and additional fees on top of parking charges, and has already written to the sector and warned some operators to review their terms and conditions. The CMA said the investigation into Euro Car Parks is at the evidence-gathering stage and is set to run until Spring 2027. Euro Car Parks says it has more than 3,000 facilities across the UK and Ireland, with more than two million cars parking in its spaces every day.
