According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Te Anau in New Zealand's South Island on Thursday, July 16, at 9:14 p.m. local time, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning. New Zealand's National Emergency Management Agency said the epicenter was about 40 kilometers north of Te Anau, with a focal depth of 53 kilometers. Reuters also reported that the U.S. Geological Survey and Germany's GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences both put the quake's magnitude at 5.9 and said the depth was more than 50 kilometers.
