Goldman Sachs' Former Top Lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler to Face House Questions on Epstein Ties

According to CNBC, Goldman Sachs' former top lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler is set to be questioned by the House Oversight Committee about her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The transcribed interview comes weeks after Ruemmler stepped down as Goldman's top lawyer amid scrutiny of her emails with Epstein, though she remains in an advisory role. Lawmakers are expected to ask about her dealings with Epstein between 2014 and 2019, including gifts he sent her, advice she offered on responding to media scrutiny, and a phone call after his July 2019 arrest on federal child sex trafficking charges. Ruemmler met Epstein in 2014 while at Latham & Watkins; her spokeswoman said she never represented Epstein but shared a client with him. Documents show Epstein sent luxury gifts and called after his arrest, and in a March 2019 email she suggested language to rebut criticism of his 2008 plea deal. Ruemmler has said she regrets knowing Epstein and has not been accused of participating in his crimes. Goldman CEO David Solomon told CNBC in February that media scrutiny made it hard for her to execute her job, and on Tuesday defended her staying on past her announced resignation.
