According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters and AFP, the US House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday (July 14) to make daylight saving time permanent nationwide. The Sunshine Protection Act passed with 308 votes in favor and 117 against. If approved by the Senate, Americans would no longer need to adjust clocks twice a year. President Donald Trump has publicly urged Congress to pass the bill. The legislation has been sent to the Senate for consideration, but its prospects remain highly uncertain. Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas has expressed concerns about potential negative consequences, including dark and dangerous morning commutes in some regions. A senior congressional aide said Cotton still holds the same concerns and will ask Senate Majority Leader John Thune not to bring the bill to a vote.
