According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, an Indian crew member who went missing after an attack on the container ship GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman has died, his father-in-law confirmed on Wednesday (July 15). Heramb Karmarkar, 30, was a marine engineer on the Cyprus-flagged vessel, which had 11 Indian nationals among its 24 crew members. The ship was attacked on Sunday (July 12). Vivek Tandon, Karmarkar's father-in-law, told Reuters that the company operating the ship informed him of his son-in-law's death. India's Ministry of External Affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Karmarkar is the second Indian seaman to die in the Strait of Hormuz in three days. Two vessels were attacked on Tuesday (July 14) while sailing in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one Indian seaman. New Delhi summoned Iran's deputy ambassador and lodged a strong protest with Iran over the incident.
