FIFA has appointed American referee Ismail Elfath to take charge of England's World Cup semi-final against Argentina, according to Yahoo Sports. Elfath, 44, previously officiated Japan vs. the Netherlands and Uruguay vs. Spain, issuing a straight red card to Uruguay midfielder Agustin Canobbio for a high challenge on Spain defender Pau Cubarsi.
The match will be played in Atlanta on Wednesday (20:00 BST). Fellow Americans Corey Parker and Kyle Atkins will be assistant referees and Italian Maurizio Mariani will be the fourth official. England's Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor, and Argentina's Facundo Tello, were ruled out of refereeing the final and the third-place play-off under FIFA conflict-of-interest regulations.
