According to CNBC, Warren Buffett excluded the Gates Foundation from his annual charitable stock gifts and directed this year’s donations to four family-linked foundations. Berkshire Hathaway said the 95-year-old chairman will donate 9 million Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and 1 million shares each to the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the Novo Foundation.
Buffett said in a statement that he aims to dispose of all of his Berkshire shares within about eight years and hopes his children can complete the process by Dec. 31, 2034. The Gates Foundation had been a major recipient of his annual Berkshire donations; since 2006, he has donated more than $43 billion worth of Berkshire stock to the organization founded by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates. The Wall Street Journal reported Buffett paused his customary donation while awaiting the outcome of a review into the foundation’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein. In a March interview, Buffett said he had not spoken with Gates since the matter became public and said he did not think it made sense to talk much until it was cleared up.
